Inspector General
Section 20.055(2), Florida Statutes, created, in all state agencies an Office of Inspector General to provide a central point for coordination of and responsibility for activities that promote accountability, integrity and efficiency in government. The Inspector General for the Florida Department of State is under the general supervision of the Secretary of the Department of State for administrative purposes and reports to the Chief Inspector General.
Our Mission
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) mission is to promote accountability, integrity and efficiency for the citizens of Florida by providing objective, timely audit and investigative services. The OIG conducts independent and objective audits, investigations as well as review of agency issues and programs to assist the department in accomplishing its mission.

The OIG conducts many different types of investigations involving allegations of employee misconduct, fraud, waste, or abuse affecting the Florida Department of State (DOS). These investigations may include allegations of fraud involving contractors and vendors doing business with DOS.
The OIG only has the authority to investigate employees and contractors of the Florida Department of State.

Report instances of Fraud, Waste, Abuse, Misconduct, or Mismanagement when you believe or know:
- Someone is using DOS property or people for personal gain;
- Someone is intentionally misleading DOS for financial gain;
- Someone is receiving a benefit to "look the other way;" or
- Someone is committing other types of fraud, waste, abuse, misconduct, or mismanagement involving DOS.

Whistle Blower Hotline
The Office of the Chief Inspector General, Executive Office of the Governor, operates the state employee Whistle Blower hotline. The hotline is maintained to provide state employees with the opportunity to report instances of significant waste, misconduct, or mismanagement with their respective agency without fear of retaliation.

Public Notice
The Florida Department of State’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) is undergoing an assessment to retain accreditation by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). The assessment, which is required every three years, will review the OIG’s compliance with approximately 40 standards. A team of assessors from CFA will conduct the assessment on July 17, 2024. The assessment will examine all aspects of the OIG’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The assessment team is composed of trained assessors who work at similar agencies throughout the state.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. Once the CFA assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full Commission, which will then make a determination on granting reaccreditation status. If approved, the reaccreditation will be for a three-year period.
