Office of Inspector General

Overview

The requirement for each state agency to have an Office of Inspector General is found in section 20.055(2), F.S. This provision was created by section 7 of Chapter 94-235, Laws of Florida. It created in all state agencies an Office of Inspector General to provide a central point for coordination of and responsibility for activities that promote accountability, integrity and efficiency in government. The Inspector General for the Florida Department of State is appointed by and reports to the Secretary of State. Florida law requires the Secretary of State to appoint the Inspector General without regard to political affiliation.

Our Mission

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) mission is to promote accountability, integrity and efficiency for the citizens of Florida by providing objective, timely audit and investigative services. The OIG conducts independent and objective audits, investigations as well as review of agency issues and programs to assist the department in accomplishing its mission.
