Campaign Finance Reporting Deadline Extended to Saturday
Deadline moved due to effects of Tropical Storm Fay
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 21, 2008) – Due to the Tropical Storm Fay, Florida Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning has extended the campaign finance report filing deadline from Friday, August, 22, 2008 to Saturday, August 23, 2008 as authorized under Executive Order 08-171. Local supervisors of elections have been notified.
Executive Order 08-171 declares the State of Florida in a state of emergency due to Tropical Storm Fay and provides that the Secretary of State has the authority to modify any deadlines contained in Florida Statutes Chapters 97 through 106 (Florida Election Code).
“Out of respect to the candidates and other Floridians affected by this storm, I have determined that moving the deadline is the fair and right thing to do for all of those involved in the political process,” said Secretary Browning.
The Department of State will have staff available to assist with filings on Friday, August 22, 2008, however, the Department will be closed on Saturday. All of those who are able to file their reports ahead of the extended deadline are encouraged to go ahead and file their reports on Friday.
