Guide to Grants

The Division of Cultural affairs administers grant programs supporting the arts and culture in Florida.

General Program Support Grants

Description
Funding to support the general program activities of an organization that is engaged in conducting, creating, producing, presenting, staging, or sponsoring multiple cultural exhibits, performances, educational programs, or events during the grant period. General Program Support funding is not intended to fund indirect or overhead expenses.

Eligibility
A public entity governed by a county or municipality; or a not-for-profit, tax-exempt Florida corporation in good standing with Division of Corporations. For the purposes of this program, the applicant must not be a political subdivision of the state. A single organization may submit only one (1) General Program Support OR one (1) Specific Cultural Project grant application for each grant period. This restriction includes local governments and universities and local governments that share a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or tax ID. Organizations that would formerly submit multiple applications from different departments must coordinate to decide on a single application for each annual cycle.

Award
Requests up to $150,000 depending on the size and type of organization and other factors as outlined in the grant guidelines.

Specific Cultural Projects Grants

Description
Funding for cultural project, program, exhibition, or series taking place within the grant period. Activities must support the mission of the organization and further the state’s cultural objectives as described in the Division of Cultural Affairs’ Strategic Plan, Culture Builds Florida’s Future. The four vision areas of the strategic plan are strengthening the economy, promoting wellness and learning, building leadership, advancing design and development. Grant proposals must incorporate at least one (1) of the four vision areas.

Eligibility
A public entity governed by a county or municipality; or a not-for-profit, tax-exempt Florida corporation in good standing with Division of Corporations. For the purposes of this program, the applicant must not be a political subdivision of the state. Florida Cultural Endowment Grants

Description
Provides support to qualifying cultural sponsoring organizations.

Eligibility
Not-for-profit, tax-exempt Florida corporation in good standing with Division of Corporations.

Award
$240,000 state dollars for $360,000 local match dollars; $600,000 total dollars invested and interest used for operations.

Cultural Facilities Grants

Description
Funding for acquisition, construction, or renovation of cultural facilities; not appropriate for project planning.

Eligibility
A public entity governed by a county or municipality; or a not-for-profit, tax-exempt Florida corporation in good standing with Division of Corporations. For the purposes of this program, the applicant must not be a political subdivision of the state.

Award
Requests up to $500,000; grantee organization may not receive more than $1.5 million in total state funding during five consecutive state fiscal years. Match at least 2:1, or two applicant dollars for every one state dollar requested. Reduced match to 1:1 may be requested by REDI Counties or communities and organizations with Total Support and Revenue of less than $500,000.

Deadline
TBD. There will be no deadline for new applications during 2011, as the list of recommended projects not funded by the 2011 Legislature will be “rolled over” to be reconsidered by the 2012 Legislature.

State Touring Program (STP)- Artist Roster Application

Description
Applications from Florida-based touring artists are accepted every two years for placement on the State Touring Program roster. A panel reviews the applications and makes recommendations for inclusion on the roster. This roster is used as the menu in conjunction with the STP Presenter Support application.

Eligibility
Professional Florida-based touring artists or organizations.

Award
Selected artists are listed in the State Touring Program Roster.

State Touring Program (STP)- Presenter Fee Support Grants

Description
Offers support to sponsoring organizations that select artists from the state-approved roster. Available four times a year.

Eligibility
A public entity governed by a county, municipality, school district, community college, college, university, or agency of state government or a not-for-profit, tax-exempt Florida corporation in good standing with Division of Corporations.

Award
State will fund 1/3 of project cost. If underserved county (population less than 75,000), state will fund 2/3 of cost.

Individual Artist Fellowships

Description
Designed to recognize practicing professional creative artists residing in Florida through monetary fellowships. Provides support for artists of exceptional talent and demonstrated ability to improve artistic skills and enhance careers. Awards are available for dance, folk arts, interdisciplinary, literature, media arts, music/composition, theatre, visual arts, and crafts (two- and three-dimensional).

Eligibility
Individuals practicing as professional artists, at least 18 years of age, and living in Florida.

Award
$5,000 each, or $5,000 split into two awards of $2,500 each at the discretion of the panel.

Deadline
June 1, 2012 for the period (approx.) January 1 - December 31, 2013. Applications for even years deadlines (including 2012, 2014 and 2016) may be submitted for the disciplines of Choreography, Theatre, Literature, Music Composition, and Interdisciplinary Arts. Applications for odd years deadlines (including 2013, 2015, and 2017) may be submitted for the disciplines of Media Arts and Visual Arts.
